What to Do: Kyoto (?)

Alrighties!  The second half of our Japan vacation will be spent in Kyoto.  Formerly the imperial capital of Japan, Kyoto is considered one of the three big culinary hubs of the country (with Tokyo and Osaka) so we’re ready to go…but what to do?

Kinkakuji - Japan Guide

So far it seems like a lot of temples:

1. Kinakakuji – The Golden Pavillion
2. Fushimi Inari Shrine (lots of orange tori gates)
3. Gion – Geisha District! Ever seen Memoirs of a Geisha?

Also thinking of a day trip to Osaka or perhaps Nara, since we’ve got a 7 day unlimited rides JR pass.  (Totally recommend getting one of these if you plan to travel between cities.)

I’m really excited!  Tokyo will be a lot of the new, fancy, technologically advanced stuff.  Kyoto will be a lot more traditional.  Instead of a western style hotel, we’ll be renting a small townhouse near Gion. 😀
