December 2013 Birchbox: Sparkle and Shine

Happy December, subbies!  Hope you are all enjoying the holiday spirit!  I’ve had my first (skinny) Peppermint Mocha of the year, tackled about half of my Christmas list, and just put up our tree last night!  I’ve even brought out a sweater (which is slightly ridiculous in our current muggy Hawaii weather) because I’ve been feeling festive.  This month’s Birchbox is pretty festive as well!

Here’s a quick blurb for this month’s description~~~

All month, we’ll be bringing you festive inspiration, from round-the-world ways to celebrate to deceptively simple DIY decorations. We’ll also put an end to that age-old debate: Sparkle or shine? Share the tips and products that strike your fancy with #BBHoliday. And don’t forget—if you run into any snafus along the way (or just need a killer punch recipe), check out our wisdom-rich Holiday Guide.

1.  Sample set of Eslor Skincare System
2. Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
3. Camille Beckman Body Butter
4. Secret Agent Beauty Nourishing & Plumping Lip Gloss
5. Kusmi Tea Paris Beauty Beverage Detox

If I had a list if wishlist items that I needed to survive December, this box checks everything off it.  I get to try a new skincare system (a complete one, woohoo!) while we’re on the neighbor island visiting B’s family…. The shampoo will help revive my limp hair….  Body Butter for nice skin and lip gloss for the parties…. and finally, some detox tea to help get all this stress out of my system!  Well done, Birchbox.  Very well done.

*PS: I swear, I’ve been on a hot streak with BB lately!  I’ve really enjoyed the last couple of boxes that I’ve received.

Hope all you other Birchbox subscribers got something good!  Happy sampling! 🙂

DIY: Gift Bows (out of recycled magazines. genius!!!)

I have TONS of magazines around my house.  TONS.  I got a bunch of gift subscriptions once and they’re still going!  I normally give them away when I’m done, but by then, I’ve received….more….magazines.

Thanks to one of my favorite wedding/DIY/crafty blogs, 100 Layer Cake, I think I’ve got a way to creatively put those mags to good use.   Tah-dah!  DIY gift bows out of magazine pages.

One of my subscription mags uses extra thick paper that will be PERFECT for making these bows.  What do you guys think?    Personally, I love this idea!  It’s quick, easy, and if I use bright colors, I think it’ll be festive and super fun.  Plus, I agree with 100 Layer Cake—I do feel rather proud and satisfied when I reuse something.  Awww, that holiday spirit.    Happy crafting!
