Aloha Kekahiaka (Good Morning!): Kokohead Summit Sunrise

Aloha Kekahiaka!  (Good Morning!)  This is the view from the summit of Kokohead–I hiked up here before 5AM this morning to watch the sunrise.  I. am. tired.  But it was 100%, hands down worth it.

Also, a quick Hawaiian phrase lesson to start the (hopefully equally sunny and happy) week:

  • Hello: Aloha
  • Good Morning: Aloha Kekahiaka
  • Good Day: Aloha Awakea
  • Good Afternoon:Aloha ‘Auinala
  • Good Evening: Aloha Ahiahi
  • Good Night: Aloha Auinapo
  • Good Late Night: Aloha Po
  • Much Love: Aloha nui loa
  • Until we meet again: A hui hou

Have a great week, everyone!

-1- Face Watches

I recently stumbled upon the coolest set of watches I’ve ever seen.  These watches are AMAZING.

-1- (1 Face Watches) is a line of super sleek watches that are downright cool.  Very iWatch-esque!  The proceeds on these watches go to charity—all sorts of different ones.  The watch color depends on the charity that you pick to donate to.

ie.) 1 white watch feeds 10 children in the Horn of Africa through our charity partner One Days Wages.  The same holds true for each of the other metrics.  The goal is to create actual quantified change in people’s lives around the world for each watch sold.

The 1:Face Story (IGGHD) from Mirza Minds on Vimeo.

And guess what?!  They’re all $40 each!  $40 for a super awesome watch that also gives back?  Count me in.  I think I just found Christmas gifts for everyone on my list this year.

Do you have any favorites? Mine is hands down Touchscreen (just cause it’s touchscreen and the black on black is sweet!).  I also really like the Red Cross and Education colors.  Charity wise, I want to have a collection of….all of them.   These are all causes that I really believe in giving back too.  Great idea, -1-facewatch!

Plus, they’re also great mirrors.  You never know when you’ll need to check your teeth, right?

June 2014 Urthbox: Beating June Gloom

I signed up for Urthbox because there was a deal on Gilt City (which I love!  If you click that, you get 25% off your next Gilt City order) and because I, myself, used a friend’s 25% off coupon. Woo!  I feel less guilty about trying out these boxes when I use coupons.

But anyway—I wanted to try Urthbox because I was looking for a healthy snack box with FREE SHIPPING (aka they actually ship to Hawaii).   This is part of my summer resolutions—try and eat healthier/smarter!  Read ingredients and nutrition labels all the time.  Eat less processed things!  You know.  Discover a healthier me.  (That’s Urthbox’s motto.)

Urthbox has 3 different sizes (they start at $19 a month) and they have 4 styles of boxes to choose from—Classic, Gluten Free, Vegan, and Diet.

I chose the Diet Small Box, which would include 7-10 items.  This is what I got for June!

I was SOOOO happy when I opened the box.  7-10 items was A LOT of stuff!

1.  Food Items

  • Vintage Italia Pasta Chips – Garlic Olive Oil
  • Crunchy Mame – Jalapeño
  • NewTree Orange Pearls
  • Hail Merry Macaroons – Choco (4 pack)
  • Schar – Honeygrams Gram Style Crackers
  • Caroline’s – Vegetarian Taco Filling

AWESOME!  There was a good mix of savory and sweet items.  My favorites are the Macaroons.  A serving size is 2 (there are 4 in there) and they’re made with extra virgin coconut oil and FairTrade cocoa.  I’m also really curious about that taco filling!  I’m not vegetarian but I rather enjoy vegetarian things.

That little blue card says,

Ohhhh no honey…there’s no June Gloom out here.  We’re just getting warmed up…  This month indulge in a delicious discovery of great new products that you can be sure are healthy and manufactured properly.  Sit back relax and get your snack on…because you’ve got a lot to chew on this month.

2.  Drink Items

  • healthee – Organic Turmeric Drink with Cinnamon
  • CalNaturale Svelte – Hello Beautiful, Chocolate Organic Protein Shake
  • Stur – Unsweetened Only Mint Cucumber Drops

I’ve never had a turmeric drink before?  It sounds really interesting (plus, its only 30 calories—but 6g of sugar wah).  I’ll try that rather flattering choco shake after my workout later this week, and that cucumber drops thing is…you know, I don’t know what to think of that!  I’m fine with plain water and not that fond of cucumbers.  I’ll give it a try.

3.  Supplement Items

  • Deeply Rooted – Roots, Blueberry Flavor
  • Kelapo – Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
  • Vitalyte – Chia Surge High Performance Endurance Gel

B is already a big fan of EVCO — he uses it pop popcorn at home.  I’ve heard amazing things about toasting vegetables with it, I can’t wait to try!  I’ve been in a roast kabocha mood lately.  I’m curious of that roots mix—supposedly its a whole day’s worth of super food in a powder.  Maybe I can mix it with milk…and drink with breakfast?  I plan on taking that Chia Surge the next time I go up Koko Head. (I go up in under 20 minutes now!  BEAST MODE!)

What do you guys think?  I, for sure, am IMPRESSED.  I think this is one of the best healthy minded boxes that I’ve tried—I like that it’s mostly food items with some supplement stuff thrown in (not the other way around).  I would have paid $19 for this box, hands down!  Gosh, I’m super curious to see what a large box is like.  I could probably snack for months!  If you guys sign up for Urthbox and pick one of the other options (classic, vegan, or gluten-free), lmk what kinds of items you got!  I’ll keep you posted on my next set of Urthboxes, stay tuned!

June 2014 Julep Bombshell Welcome Box

Summer means lots of sandals and open shoes so I decided to splurge a little and try out a 3 month subscription to Julep.

Julep is a monthly nail polish subscription box that retails for $24.99 a month.  Yep, you read that correctly—25 bucks a month!  It drops to $19.99 a month if you get a 3 month subscription and I also entered the code ‘FREEBOX’ to get my first month free.

After a quick questionnaire, Julep matches you with several style ‘profiles.’  I ended up with the Bombshell box.

What do you think?  The colors are really vibrant and pretty!  I love the shimmer in the pink (Laree – Bombshell) and in person, it’s not as in-your-face as it seems in the picture (thats what it looks like in sunlight).  The purple (Bette – Bombshell) is a nice, rich color that I’m looking forward to layering with fun top coats.  I also got the Freedom Polymer Top Coat, which supposedly gives your nails a finish similar to gel.

Interesting!  What do you guys think?  When I first signed up, I was really wishy-washy if I wanted to do it or not.  I personally thought that the subscription really expensive for what you get (nail polish!) but I’ve had friends gush about how much they love this polish brand and I think I’m becoming a believer!  I just did my nails with Bette—it was 4 free, not 5 (the fragrance was really pleasant)—and it went on reallllllly well.  Quality nail polish, indeed!  Stay tuned—I’ve got 2 more boxes to go for this summer.

LivingSocial Deal + Coupon – Cate & Chloe VIP Jewelry Subscription Box

Happy Aloha Friday everyone!  It’s really (and I mean really) overcast in Hawaii right now so I figured I’d share this awesome deal I found for a great way to start off the weekend (even though it might be storming later and this cancels my beach plans wah)!

Cate & Chloe is a VIP Jewelry Subscription box that sends you….$200 worth of jewelry every month for $39.99 monthly membership.  From what I understand, its two pieces, mailed seperately, every 2 weeks?

I just stumbled upon an AWESOME LivingSocial deal so that we can all try a one month subscription for only… $19!  Woohoo!   And it gets even better!  Enter the code, ‘SUMMERSTART‘ and you get 20% off.  So I only paid $15.20.   If you do end up trying this box (I was so curious and I figured, for that price?  Why the heck not!), please let me know!  We can compare our spoils.  From what I understand, the pieces are ‘high-end’ meaning they’re silver plated, gold plated, etc.  I’m so excited for this box to come in!  Stay tuned and have a great weekend!
