June 2014 Urthbox: Beating June Gloom

I signed up for Urthbox because there was a deal on Gilt City (which I love!  If you click that, you get 25% off your next Gilt City order) and because I, myself, used a friend’s 25% off coupon. Woo!  I feel less guilty about trying out these boxes when I use coupons.

But anyway—I wanted to try Urthbox because I was looking for a healthy snack box with FREE SHIPPING (aka they actually ship to Hawaii).   This is part of my summer resolutions—try and eat healthier/smarter!  Read ingredients and nutrition labels all the time.  Eat less processed things!  You know.  Discover a healthier me.  (That’s Urthbox’s motto.)

Urthbox has 3 different sizes (they start at $19 a month) and they have 4 styles of boxes to choose from—Classic, Gluten Free, Vegan, and Diet.

I chose the Diet Small Box, which would include 7-10 items.  This is what I got for June!

I was SOOOO happy when I opened the box.  7-10 items was A LOT of stuff!

1.  Food Items

  • Vintage Italia Pasta Chips – Garlic Olive Oil
  • Crunchy Mame – Jalapeño
  • NewTree Orange Pearls
  • Hail Merry Macaroons – Choco (4 pack)
  • Schar – Honeygrams Gram Style Crackers
  • Caroline’s – Vegetarian Taco Filling

AWESOME!  There was a good mix of savory and sweet items.  My favorites are the Macaroons.  A serving size is 2 (there are 4 in there) and they’re made with extra virgin coconut oil and FairTrade cocoa.  I’m also really curious about that taco filling!  I’m not vegetarian but I rather enjoy vegetarian things.

That little blue card says,

Ohhhh no honey…there’s no June Gloom out here.  We’re just getting warmed up…  This month indulge in a delicious discovery of great new products that you can be sure are healthy and manufactured properly.  Sit back relax and get your snack on…because you’ve got a lot to chew on this month.

2.  Drink Items

  • healthee – Organic Turmeric Drink with Cinnamon
  • CalNaturale Svelte – Hello Beautiful, Chocolate Organic Protein Shake
  • Stur – Unsweetened Only Mint Cucumber Drops

I’ve never had a turmeric drink before?  It sounds really interesting (plus, its only 30 calories—but 6g of sugar wah).  I’ll try that rather flattering choco shake after my workout later this week, and that cucumber drops thing is…you know, I don’t know what to think of that!  I’m fine with plain water and not that fond of cucumbers.  I’ll give it a try.

3.  Supplement Items

  • Deeply Rooted – Roots, Blueberry Flavor
  • Kelapo – Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
  • Vitalyte – Chia Surge High Performance Endurance Gel

B is already a big fan of EVCO — he uses it pop popcorn at home.  I’ve heard amazing things about toasting vegetables with it, I can’t wait to try!  I’ve been in a roast kabocha mood lately.  I’m curious of that roots mix—supposedly its a whole day’s worth of super food in a powder.  Maybe I can mix it with milk…and drink with breakfast?  I plan on taking that Chia Surge the next time I go up Koko Head. (I go up in under 20 minutes now!  BEAST MODE!)

What do you guys think?  I, for sure, am IMPRESSED.  I think this is one of the best healthy minded boxes that I’ve tried—I like that it’s mostly food items with some supplement stuff thrown in (not the other way around).  I would have paid $19 for this box, hands down!  Gosh, I’m super curious to see what a large box is like.  I could probably snack for months!  If you guys sign up for Urthbox and pick one of the other options (classic, vegan, or gluten-free), lmk what kinds of items you got!  I’ll keep you posted on my next set of Urthboxes, stay tuned!

  1. This company has the worst customer service ever.

I just moved and I changed my address on the website the only place you can change it. I get the tracking info for my August boxes, I’m subscribed to three boxes, and I check to see where my boxes are. Tracking info says they’ve been delivered, they shipped them to the old address though.

Obviously I’m pretty disappointed so I email them letting them know what happened. They respond saying that I should have emailed them to change my shipping address and that if I want my August boxes I will have to pay $6 more per box for them to be shipped to the correct address, the address that I had already changed on their website which says NOTHING anywhere as far as having to email them to change your shipping location.

I let them know that I thought it was pretty messed up how they were handling this situation considering it was their error and their website issues that caused it to happen. To which they let me know that they would be adding a note to their website to email them if you need to change your shipping address. Yet are still requiring that I pay them another $18 on top of the already $70+ that I paid for my August boxes.

Now they’ve stopped responding to me and are censoring me from their Facebook page.

This is a terrible company with terrible standards, they will not last long.
