Influenster Frosty VoxBox Review: Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner + Gentle Eye Makeup Remover

Two of the items that Influenster provided (free of charge, for testing purposes) in the Frosty Vox Box were by Rimmel.  Woohoo!  I’ve been reading about Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in various beauty mags lately and I’ve been excited to try it.  My makeup routine is literally centered around eyeliner–I can go without foundation and mascara but I NEED eyeliner–so I’m always excited to try new ones.  Influenster included Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover as well.
From the Product Card:  “…Scandaleyes…gives instant colour impact with its high intensity pigments. The ultra-smooth and creamy formula glides on easily.”
This eyeliner retails for about $4.49 and the packaging looks just like any other drugstore black eyeliner.  You’ll need to sharpen this with a pencil sharpener but that’s no biggy.
This eyeliner.  Applies.  Like.  A.  DREAM.  It glides on creamy amazing buttery smooth, no tugging whatsoever.  No harsh, dry, snagging formula here!  I was able to smudge it for a bit of a more relaxed look and I didn’t have to force it.  The formula is a bit double-edged though—by the end of the morning, I could definitely see some transfer to my bottom lids.  Cool if you’re looking for something that can convert to something edgier after work but not so cool if you’re still *at* work and you look like a raccoon.

Can you see the transfer on the bottom lash already? This was taken about an hour after application. Teehee–I am also wearing a teeny bit of glittery liner.

The double-edge thing gets a little worse–removal of this eyeliner is….gosh, it was bad.  The VoxBox came with Rimmel’s remover—Gentle Eye Makeup Remover.  Retails for $7.49 and “gently removes all eye makeup, including long-lasting and waterproof makeup, with no oily residue.”
Sounds good, right?  I usually use Neutrogena’s Gentle Eye Makeup Remover because it gets EVERYTHING off.  BUT it has a bit of an oily feel to it, very similar to Clinique’s eye makeup remover.  The oily feeling makes me feel kind of icky.
HOWEVER–this product did a horrible job of removing the eyeliner!  I went from minor raccoon eyes to full on panda eyes.  I read somewhere that to remove oil based products, you need an oil based remover.  This may be why I failed so horribly with taking it off, so I’m taking my own experience with a grain of salt.  I have used this makeup remover with non-waterproof mascara and long-lasting eyeliner and it has done a pretty good job of removing them—I’m thinking it might just be that the formula of the liner only comes off with oily remover.
Final Verdict:  I think….I’d pass on both of these.  The pigment and creaminess of the eyeliner is WONDERFUL but I’ve used similar products (with similar pigment and creaminess) that come off way easier AND don’t smudge during the day–I find myself reaching for other eyeliners over this one, just because I dread removing the Scandaleyes.
The remover DOES do a good job of removing other (non-Scandaleyes) products but for $7.50 a bottle but it’s still a bit mild. For that price, I feel like I’m better off with the Neutrogena remover.
Still, this was a really fun product test!  Thank you, Rimmel and Influenster~

January 2015 Birchbox: Let’s Do This!

I absolutely love the ‘theme’ for this month!  NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS LET’S GO!

Mine are to:

  1. Eat less sugar.  (AKA be more mindful of ingredient labels)
  2. Workout Better (AKA push myself!!!  Don’t settle for easy, push push push)
  3. Learn how to sew.

These picks from BB will help me feel my best in the new year (or I hope they will.  Nothing like a fresh start!):

Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 9.31.37 PM

  • Perlier Intensive Nurturing Body Balm (BB sample choice of the month)
  • Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream
  • Manna Kadar Lip Locked
  • Briogeo Don’t Despair! Repair!  Deep Conditioning Mask
  • When Travelmate Sheet Mask Set
  • Teapigs Tea Temples

Again, I couldn’t order the special box this month because it contained items unshippable to Hawaii (I wonder if it was something cool and aerosol?)…but I’m pretty pleased with what’s in the box.  EYE CREAM is always welcome, and a thicker body balm is also, since it’s still a bit dry.  Yes.  Even in Hawaii—we were shivering when it was 60 degrees.  Haha!  And since I travel a lot, anything travel related and relaxing is an A+ item in my book.

What did you guys get?  😀
