Lisa Eldridge: Smokey Eye Tutorial

Hi guys!  I’m sick.  I’m camped out in my living room with a box of Kleenex–it’s raining cats and dogs outside.  Ugh.  Hawaii just dodged the remnants of Tropical Storm Kilo and I heard Ignacio may be here by next week.  Hurricane Season!  Better stock up on my toilet paper and bottled water.*

But anyway, I’m watching makeup tutorials while I wait for my medication to kick in.  I just found one that I really like!  It’s a smokey eye tutorial by Lisa Eldridge, a super awesome makeup artist from the UK.  I like this look because it’s not too much–you know what I mean?  A few of the other smokey eye tutorials that I just watched were heavy from the start while this one is very buildable.  Smokey eyes are so versatile–they’re my go-to [important occasion] look and I think I’m going to try to adapt my technique to mirror Lisa’s.  What do you guys think?  Hope you’re staying dry!

*It’s a local inside joke that whenever there’s a chance of a natural disaster or something similar, people in Hawaii go CRAZY and ransack all stores to stock up on the following products:

  • Toilet Paper
  • Bottled Beverages/Water
  • Sometimes Spam

I’m serious!  If you tried to go to Costco this week, the line to check-out would take longer than it took you to grab all the things in it.  OH and fill up gas while you can.  The last time, when we thought we were going to get hit by a tsunami, the line for a gas station was over an hour.  Maybe two.  UGH I should just buy a bicycle.

OH! One more thing: I heard that the Rachel Zoe, Box of Style: Fall 2015 is sold out.  I guess so–they last advertised that they only had 200 boxes left.  I’m on a roll right now (YAY sickness!)–here’s a quick recap of all of the Hero items so far:

YAY!  I feel like the items are either leather or gold.  Which are both absolute wins in book.  What do you think Winter’s Hero item will be?  (Okay I’m sleepy now.  Have a great week, everyone!)

Rachel Zoe Box of Style, Fall 2015: 200 boxes left

Hey y’all–how’s your week going? I’m caught between feeling like, “YES it’s almost Friday” and “UGH Friday can’t come soon enough.”  Hurry up, weekend!

But anyway–here’s a quick reminder to anyone who was contemplating the Fall 2015 Box of Style and wanted that pretty rose gold watch: there are less than 200 boxes left!

I thought I’d feel a little guilty because this is a $100 pet quarter sub…but gosh, this is my favorite subscription ever. No regrets, and the products you’re not too keen on sell FANTASTICALLY on eBay. Not kidding, I sold one item for 80% of the cost of the box. Woohoo!

So if you’re interested, hop to it!

Zuko: Blowing Coat

Do any of you have dogs with undercoats? Zuko is the first dog that I’ve owned that has one (my family has a short haired Jack Russell. He’s a shortie; he’s so cute!). Undercoats help keep the dogs insulated for cold weather and it’s also supposed to help in warm weather by acting like a heat block. (Or so I’ve been told)

The undercoat gives Zuko Shiba this extra fluffiness; I love it!  Especially around his face–the undercoat gives him a little mane like a lion. But, with great fluffiness comes…great…shedding. Or, in doggie terms: blowing coat.

He’s been shedding slowly since July but last weekend, his coat really started to go for it. This is the accumulation of about a day or so.

We brush him while he naps to about whenever he’s decided that he’s had enough…but the fur just keeps coming out!  If you have de-sheding tips that you’d like to share, I’m all ears.  So far, we use this silicon brush that seems to gently pull out the loose hair. Z’s puppy school instructor let us know about a more effective furminator-like tool called the “Shed Titan.” I just ordered it on Amazon so we’ll see how well it works.

Have a great rest of your week!

Wedding Dress Crush: Lace Backs

Sometimes, when I’m chatting with my girlfriends (married and not yet), we talk about dresses.  Would you get a different type of dress?  What kind of train do you want? Something more traditional?  A fun color?

I absolutely LOVED my dress and I still don’t regret picking it as ‘The One,’ but sometimes, I do wish that I had the luxury of picking a different dress for the reception.  Why?  Mostly because I am in LOVE with these lace back wedding dress styles.  It’s funny–I don’t think I would have ever considered anything like this while I was wedding planning but I can’t get enough!

From this Pinterest collage, my favorite would have to be…the top right post.  Here’s a close-up:

Aww guys–check out that crystal detailing–isn’t it awesome?  I also think those crystal buttons go all the way down the train…I have a thing for buttons, also.  Don’t ask me why–buttons.  It’s where it’s at (sorry that was dumb).

The only thing is that you’d either have to wear a sticky bra or have supportive cups sewn into the front of your dress.  I had cups sewn in–I liked it!  It was a lot more comfortable than wearing a bra, especially because I danced A LOT and there was a lot of afternoon sun during pictures.

Influenster: Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Mini Vox

I got a notice from Influenster a whole ago but I totally forgot about it. But woohoo, got chosen for this mini box?  Thanks for sending me a sample, free of charge, for testing purposes!

The product we’re testing is “Airbrush Legs,” which is like a spray-on hose or stocking. It hides imperfections, veins, etc. and it comes in a variety of shades…but I guess Influenster only sent out the product in “light” so here we go? I have a feeling that this’ll be a bit hilarious, especially because I’m rather dark, in my opinion (PS it’s summer!).

This is a before and after picture of my ankle.  It looks really weird and bony from this angle–sorry!  I used my ankle because I have an old shaving scar tick mark, can you see it?  I also have one stray hair, UGH.

The product feels like foundation–it’s not thick like lotion and it rubs and blends in really easily.  Almost a bit watery, I’d say.  I was really surprised that this color is considered ‘Light’–it blended it to my tan skin really easily!  I said a very loud, “Well, whadayaknow” as I rubbed it in.  I’m really impressed!  This product is awesome at covering the little imperfections on your skin–the kind that you don’t really pay attention to, that much (if you’re like me).  The little dark spots where hair grows, small shaving nicks, some veins.  One thin application had pretty impressive coverage but it’s still opaque enough so that it looks like skin and not a mask.  If I had to choose between hose/stockings and this–I’d go with this because it’s so much more convenient.  And, it gives me just enough color so I have a sunkissed ‘glow’ vs the pale palor that comes from not enough beach and too much office…while avoiding the dark, burnt, raisin shade when I’ve had WAY too much.

I know this product comes in a tube (like this) or a spray–I don’t know which one I’d pick!  Maybe the tube, so I could be more sure in the way the product is applied.  I feel paranoid that if I used the spray, I’d come out with blotchier coverage.

The only con that I can think of is the shades–there are 5 shades and light is the second to the lightest one.  Very interesting–this is a product that a tester would def come in handy, for everyone, I imagine!  Too bad testers are ICKY and gross.  D:  I wouldn’t have purchased this shade for myself–I would have gone one darker with medium because typically, my skin tone is very rarely (if ever) called ‘light.’

Would you or do you use a product like this?  Lmk what you think!
