October 2015 Birchbox: Game Face

Birchbox Time!  There were three options this month.  This box, another similarly curated (Estee Lauder related) one, and a pick-your-own-mascara option.  I went with Game Face because it was more skin care heavy and although I really really really really wanted to try Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara, I have way too many tubes to go through right now.  Plus, how could I say no to Anti-Aging cream and more moisturizer?  I LOVE moisturizer.

Not really a surprise since this is curated but I’m pretty pleased with the quality of the samples in this box!  Estee Lauder, Clinique, Smashbox, Origins, and Prescriptives make win-win products, for me anyway, so although it’s nothing ‘new,’ it’s all appreciated!

Of all of these, I’m probably most excited for the Estee Lauder creme.  I’m a bit worried that it’ll be too heavy…but if it is, I’ll bring it on my next (dry, cold-weather) trip and it’ll definitely get used.  I’ve tried the Clinique lotion (LOVE), Smashbox Primer (I don’t buy regularly but enjoy samples), and ORIGINS wash (also rather fond of) so I’m most curious about the Prescriptives mascara.  With a name like ‘False Eyelashes Plush Mascara,’ how can you go wrong?  Haha (many ways) but I’m optimistic on this one.  Maybe I’ll move it higher on my mascara-to-try list.  Hm.

Well anyway, Happy Monday!  Hope you have a great week!

The Happenings: October 2015

So far, this month has been absolutely nuts. I’m typing this on my phone in my car because whenever I get near a computer (with a real, physical keyboard *sigh*), I feel like I have a bazillion things to do and I always forget to update. Let’s fix that!

First off, my Box of Style FINALLY came in. Y’all know this is my favorite subscription box but the shipping takes forever and a day (actually, more than a month to Hawaii. It takes the slow slow slow ship method vs airmail). I like both straps but I would have loved a nice, rich brown over both.

The casing doesn’t feel too large and even though I generally prefer lighter faces, it’s growing on me! The straps do feel a bit chalky (they are genuine) but they just need a bit breaking in.  It was really easy to switch the straps so I feel like I’d buy more, depending on the occasion/my mood.

K second–last weekend was a nice three-day-er! We didn’t have much time for relaxing but we did do the Hawaii Humane Society’s Pet Walk. It was ridiculous humid, Zuko got so excited that he pooped twice (once on the path haha gosh), but we had an amazing time!

They even had puppy shave ice afterwards, but we had to be careful with how much he ate so he didn’t cool himself off too quickly.  There were a lot of other Shibas there and at 20lbs, my pup really is a tiny Sheeb.

And third, lastly, I’ve been in a nonstop Vietnamese food obsession.  I usually get the vermicelli with lemongrass chicken or tofu because there’s a wonderful layer of lettuce and other veggies under it. Obsessed!  This is my third time eating this this week.

For lunch, I get the lemongrass [protein] in a sandwich with extra veggies. They’re pickled daikon and carrots–its addicting!

Okay that’s it for now, ahhhhhhhhhh back into the stress of work. Hope you are all having a great week do far, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Target Beauty Box: Fall 2015

YAY more Fall boxes!  I’m not sure how often Target offers these beauty boxes (I know there was a Summer one that wasn’t available to Hawaii/Alaska/APO and just recently there was a L’Oreal box).  Unlike the Walmart Boxes, these aren’t a subscription–you have to order each one individually.  They run $5 per box (with free shipping if you’re a Target card holder).

This box included an Autumn themed card with product descriptions.  These products will get you to FALL in love with “must-haves and can’t-live-withouts.”

This box is pretty sturdy!  It reminds me of an itty-bitty PopSugar MustHave or Rachel Zoe Box of Style box.  This season, Target sent:

  • Jane Carter, Revitalizing Leave – in Condtioner
  • Curis, Creme Brule Whipped Curl Cream
  • Dove, Quench Absolute Creme Serum (Full Size)
  • SheaMoisture, Jamaican Black Castor Oil Styling Lotion
  • Aquaphor, Healing Ointment
  • Colgate, Optic White Platinum Express White Toothpaste

Moisturizers for everything!!!  I can definitely see why this is considered a Fall box–this box is an arsenal when it comes to combating dryness.  I’m most excited for the SheaMoisture Styling Lotion because now that I’ve colored my hair, it’s especially dry around the ends (and that’s even after washing every other day).  The only thing I probably won’t use too much is the curl cream–I’ll either gift or put it on my straight ends anyway.  What do you guys think of the box?  I think it’s a great deal for $5, especially because that Dove Serum is full size!

In comparison with the Walmart Beauty Box: Fall 2015 that I got last week, the major difference is size of samples.  The Walmart box sent a larger variety of products but they were trial size or foil packets.  The Target box sent fewer items but definitely deluxe and full size items.  I like them both!  They’re both good for different things, but if I had to pick only one, I’d go with Target.

After all these Fall-themed boxes, I’m in an Autumn mood!  I think I’m going to go bake some Pumpkin Bread.
