Standing Ab Exercises AKA Helpful Moves for People Who Travel

There is a gym in this hotel.  I think it also includes a semi-outdoor driving range!  Unfortunately, I don’t golf (but I really wish I did, does anyone want to take lessons?).  Typically when I’m on work trips and its too late or it isn’t practical to run (IT SNOWED TODAY I was confused), I hang out in my room, blast iTunes, and do a lot of non-noisy cardio and body weight exercises.

My only rule is: CAN’T TOUCH THE GROUND because hotels and carpets and ugh.  It rules out yoga for me and some ab exercises…which makes me sad!  Good thing for Pinterest: now I’m happy.

For the travelers out there, here’s some standing abs from GymRa!  Thought I’d share–I tend to do a lot more squats than anything else because of the Rule.  They have a lot more regular workout routines too, which are great for combining to make interesting sets!  I need to incorporate arms and back into my workouts.

Wedding Dress Crush: Lace Backs

Sometimes, when I’m chatting with my girlfriends (married and not yet), we talk about dresses.  Would you get a different type of dress?  What kind of train do you want? Something more traditional?  A fun color?

I absolutely LOVED my dress and I still don’t regret picking it as ‘The One,’ but sometimes, I do wish that I had the luxury of picking a different dress for the reception.  Why?  Mostly because I am in LOVE with these lace back wedding dress styles.  It’s funny–I don’t think I would have ever considered anything like this while I was wedding planning but I can’t get enough!

From this Pinterest collage, my favorite would have to be…the top right post.  Here’s a close-up:

Aww guys–check out that crystal detailing–isn’t it awesome?  I also think those crystal buttons go all the way down the train…I have a thing for buttons, also.  Don’t ask me why–buttons.  It’s where it’s at (sorry that was dumb).

The only thing is that you’d either have to wear a sticky bra or have supportive cups sewn into the front of your dress.  I had cups sewn in–I liked it!  It was a lot more comfortable than wearing a bra, especially because I danced A LOT and there was a lot of afternoon sun during pictures.

Wishlist: The Lettered Bride DIY Calligraphy Kit

I did my own ‘calligraphy’ for my wedding.  It involved a specialized fountain pen and lots and lots of inky fingers!  In the end, I thought it came out pretty good—I got calls asking about my handwriting (sorry for the bragging!  I felt so proud. :3) but it was a LOT of hard work (but also lots of fun)!  Part of the difficulty came from not knowing where to start.  I started with the wrong pens and then I had the wrong ink—I was pretty discouraged and I almost gave up!  I’m glad I stuck with it.

To make it easier for an already busy bride who’s got a LOT on her plate, Ashley Lurcott, a pro wedding calligrapher, has curated this beauty.

Voila!  The Lettered Bride.

The Lettered Bride DIY Calligraphy Kit is much more than just a pen, ink, and an alphabet to copy — from laying out your envelopes, to crafting your own unique lettering style, to prepping and cleaning your pens, it’s your complete guide to addressing beautiful wedding invitations!

The Lettered Bride comes with high-quality, bride-tested tools and materials to make learning a modern calligraphic style easy and fun. Add a personal touch to your invitations and other wedding paper goods (favors, name cards, etc.) without spending a ton of time and money trying to find the right materials!

EACH KIT COMES WITH:
– Easy care, no-rust pen holder
– Two different nibs to create a variety of writing styles
– High quality ink tested on commonly used wedding envelopes (please specify black, white, or gold)
– Step-by-step instruction booklet with alphabet variations, pen care instructions, envelope layout ideas, and custom-ruled practice sheets
– Lovingly packaged by hand – perfect for engagement gifts!

WHY THE LETTERED BRIDE?
– Designed by a bride who spent way more time and money than she wanted to trying to find the right tools to address her wedding invitations!
– Specify your ink color – perfect for those using darker envelopes who may want gold or white ink.
– All three available inks have been thoroughly tested against many other inks and are beautiful, opaque, durable, quick to dry, and just the right consistency.
– The Lettered Bride emphasizes modern calligraphy scripts – most in-store kits don’t provide pointed-pen nibs and instead teach old-fashioned, gothic calligraphy styles.
– The instruction booklet includes prepping and care of your pens and nibs, envelope layout ideas, troubleshooting, and multiple variations of letterforms so you can create your own unique alphabet that works with your natural handwriting.
– Works for lefties and righties!

What do you guys think?  I absolutely love this kit!  Personally, I would go for the gold ink.  Heck, I’m tempted to buy this as a birthday present for myself.  Now I can handwrite envelopes for my sister’s future wedding?  I hope?  :]

PS Ashley also sells GORGEOUS custom calligraphy rubber stamps.  You’d have the most amazing RSVP card ever.

Wedding Dress Crush: BHLDN’s Vivienne Gown

Hey, all you brides out there: You’ve got to see this one.  SERIOUSLY.

Introducing the Vivienne Gown from BHLDN.  Absolutely breathtaking!  What do you guys think?

(BHLDN is ‘Beholden’ without the vowels.  I was puzzled by this for a while so I decided to look it up.  Adorable!  Thank you, Anthropologie.  ‘Beholden’ has a Dutch history, which means, ‘to keep.’)

Here’s a closeup of that beautiful beading on the top:

I’m absolutely in LOVE.  It’s radically different from the wedding dress that I had for my own wedding (which will always be my absolute favorite) but in an alternate reality, my dress would have been this one!  I love that it’s like simple and clean with just enough drama to make it special without going over the top.  Like…elegance without trying.  And it looks super light and comfortable~  I’ve seen more and more illusion necklines lately but this one definitely hits it out of the park.

For the bride with her sights set high in the sky, this soft cloud-grey gown is complete with elegant corded lace and hand-embroidered silver beading. The illusion tulle neckline and sheer back paneling add an extra delicate feel. This stunning design is from Catherine Deane, who creates all of her own original, exquisite artworks. Back zip and covered buttons. Silk tulle, polyester lining. Professionally clean. Imported.

  • Can be shortened; using an experienced bridal tailor is recommended
  • Bust cups
  • Recommend pairing this gown with a veil in Ivory
