Rachel Zoe: Box of Style, Spring 2015

GOSH if there was one subscription service that I’ve never felt an ounce of regret signing up for…it’s definitely, hands down, Rachel Zoe’s.  Heck, I’m already crazy excited for her Summer box and it’s not even coming for another 3 months!

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s start with her debut box for Spring 2015.

wpid-20150410_132916.jpgIn this box, we received (no variations, from what I’ve seen):

  1. Hero Item: The Cuff.  Miansai Modern Screw Cuff (Retail Value $200)
  2. The Mani. Zoya Nail Polish in Zoe, Chantal, and Haley ($30)
  3. The Sunnies.  Traveler by TOMS ($68)
  4. The Lashes. tarte lights, camera lashes 4-in-1 mascara ($20)
  5. The Styling Tool. Bristols 6 Stylin’ Tape ($10)

First of all, let’s start with the cuff.  OMG 18k gold plated YES!!!  I love this item, I’ve already worn it several times and to all sorts of events (work, a wedding, date, etc.).  The only issue I can see is that it’s kind of small–I have very small wrists and this fits me like a glove.  If my wrist was just maybe…half an inch wider, it wouldn’t fit very comfortably.  I feel bad–it worked out for me but I can imagine that there were lots of other subscribers who would be forced to gift or trade this item because it didn’t fit.

The nail polish trio is beautiful–Zoe (the white shade) was designed to coordinate perfectly with the other two colors.  That ‘Box of Style’ card provided some helpful tips on how to use this product and all the others.

The sunnies I wasn’t sure if I’d like or not–they fit great but they’re a bit rounder then what I would have picked for myself.  However, I’ve worn them a couple times and have gotten lots of compliments!  And did I mention that they fit great?  I figure that’s the most important thing.  Thanks, Rachel Zoe, for forcing me to try something new.

I can’t WAIT to try the mascara–I’m still using my YSL mascara from Influenster–doesn’t sound interesting?  It claims to be a 4-in-1 multitasker.  And the styling tape I’ve already used–THANK GOODNESS for styling tape.  I used it to tape my dress to myself at the wedding I went to yesterday–imagine, I could have flashed everyone…..*whew!*

I signed up for an annual subscription so this box was about $90, for me.  I loved the items.  I LOVED THEM.  Just the value of the cuff (which fits me great, I’m sorry everyone else who it doesn’t fit D: D: D: I feel really bad) makes this a great deal but I’m just so happy with all the pieces!  Can’t wait to share when we get more spoilers for Summer!

Influenster Yves Saint Laurent Voxbox: Mascara Review

Alrighties, you know the drill.  These products were provided free of charge for testing purposes.  Okay?  Let’s begin! 😀
wpid-img_20150324_195514.jpg
Earlier this month, I won the VoxBox Lottery and scored the YSL Box.  YSL as in Yves Saint Lauren.  *squee!*  They sent me a tube of their Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cilis, which in plain speak means, a “luxurious mascara for a false lash effect.”
Gosh, YSL has the most glamorous packaging ever.  This mascara comes in a shiny gold foil box and in a shinier gold tube with the YSL logo on the cap.  I absolutely love the design, I feel special just twisting the tube open.  And as you can see, the brush is a bit thicker and fluffier than your typical mascara applicator.
wpid-photogrid_1427997037604.jpg
The formula is neither thick nor thin, it’s a happy medium and I mean this in the most positive way possible.  In the pictures below, I applied two coats and it layers beautifully–no clumping whatsoever.  Upon first swipe, I was a bit disappointed because there wasn’t an instant ‘wow’ like how I get with Urban Decay’s Perversion Mascara (my current #1 in rotation from Sephora’s Lash Stash)…but don’t worry keep going!  As I kept swiping the brush up my lashes, the volume started to appear, and then the length, all while keeping the curl and maintaining the definition.  More coats seem to add volume instead of clumpiness, I was definitely pleased when I stopped applying.
Also, I think it’s important to add that I didn’t experience any weird fumes or eye irritations while applying or wearing this product.  And the best part–EASY removal.  No tugging or scrubbing…gosh.  No irritation? I might be a loyalist for life.
What do you guys think? Here are a few before and after shots.  I figure for everyday going to work, most of us will just swipe on one/two coats.  I haven’t tried it yet but I’m pretty confident that this mascara will build up beautifully if B and I were to go out for drinks afterwards.  (…and that’s probably the intention of this product…haha oops).
Before on the left, After on the right

Before on the left, After on the right

Perhaps the true test:  on my first day of wearing it, a coworker asked me where I got my extensions done.  And then another one asked if these were the falsies that I brought home from Japan.  SUCCESS!  In all honesty, I feel like these definitely won’t replace the length and volume of real falsies but they definitely 100% do give a false lash effect.   Actually, I think they pass for natural, short extensions–I’m used to wearing super long extensions and falsies are the only way to get that length and volume.  But for everyday and days when I don’t want to mess with glue?  This product is perfect.

What do you think?  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this formula–this is one of my favorites and I can definitely see myself wearing this product every day.  Maybe when I get out of the ‘experiment with makeup’ phase, I’ll settle down and use this mascara exclusively…but until then, (will I ever grow out of it? haha) I’ll be absolutely stoked if it or another YSL tube appears in Sephora’s Lash Stash again.

Influenster Yves Saint Laurent Voxbox: March 2015

Yves Saint Laurent Mascara is…gosh.  It is my FAVORITE splurge mascara brand.  I got the Lash Stash from Sephora last year (for Christmas, woohoo!) and the YSL mascara was the first one that I tried out of the box.  It was FANTASTIC and I was dreaming about it for months after–none of the other mascaras were the same…

…which is why I was STOKED to receive the YSL Voxbox!  WOOHOO!  I received a tube of YSL’s Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils, free of charge, for testing purposes.  AWESOME.

You’ve seen the ad before: It stars the very strong browed Cara:

I’m really excited to try this mascara!  I’ve tried YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Baby Doll mascara before (in the Lash Stash) and it was AMAZING.  Amazing definition, amazing volume, amazing length.  Curl was just okay but I curl my eyelashes beforehand anyway, so not too bad.  My favorite parts (besides definition because I hate clumpiness) were that it didn’t make my eyes water and that the formula was easy to remove.  LOVE.

The mascara I got from Influenster, the Volume Effet Faux Cils is more of a Falsh Lash effect kinda formula–

Flaunt bigger than life lashes when you brush on this mascara from Yves Saint Laurent. This non-drying formula is enriched with B5 pro-vitamin, which deepens, darkens, and leaves lashes look instantly thicker. The nylon fiber brush builds luscious volume, coating lashes from root to tip for a bold false-lash look.

I’m a big fan of fiber mascaras so count me in!

This product retails for $32.00, and you get it a variety of places (including Sephora, who sells it in a variety of colors).  I have a feeling that I might need to try the other shades….heehee, we’ll see.

I’ll show you guys a before and after–one or two swipes and I’m ready to go in the morning.  It’s great.  *sigh in happiness [and perhaps laziness] over my morning latte*

PS: Don’t forget!  I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

OMG I FEEL LIKE I HAVE WON THE VOXBOX LOTTERY!!!

I think the only thing in this box might be the mascara.  But that’s perfectly wonderful–please excuse my lack of coherent thought right now.  I’m so excited!  YSL products are definitely my favorites when it comes to high-end up there products.  I just tried a YSL mascara in the Sephora Lash Stash and it was like heaven.

March seems like an exciting week for things in the mail!

  • Influenster YSL VoxBox
  • Birchbox March
  • Must Have Resort Box
  • Possibly Golden Tote March

I should bake some cookies for the mailman. :3

Japanese Makeup Review: Eyemania Mascara

Remember my big beauty products score a few months ago? Here’s one of the all-stars:

Eyemania Mascara.  I have no idea what it says, but it looks like it was #1 in something (related to Yahoo?) and that it’s a fiber-based mascara that promises 300%…..Length and Volume.  Also, from what I can make out, it looks like it’s removed with warm water, it lasts 24 hours, but it’s not waterproof.  Neat!

If you can tell from this picture, the brush already comes curved.

You’re supposed to apply the mascara to the underside of your lashes, first, like so:

And then apply like you normally would!  *cue sparkly ness*

Here’s what it looks like on me (ignore my crazy brows):

wpid-photogrid_1413932782821.jpg

This is one coat, curled lashes, with a base of black eyeliner.  First impressions are that this mascara is DEFINITELY of the wet variety.  It was a bit messy to put on and all layering must be done while it is wet–otherwise, it gets kind of dry and clumpy looking.  Also, even if I continued to comb, I had to fine-tune the separation of individual lashes with a lash comb.

But overall, I’m in love!  This formula is great–I feel no burning or sensitivity in my eyes what-so-ever.  It’s great for my everyday look and the fibers really add length and volume.  I don’t know about 300% but I’m definitely a believer.  I don’t mind the extra clean-up from the brush/formula, it’s definitely worth it for me because taking it off is a CINCH.  I use makeup remover because I also line my eyes and it comes off VERY easily.  It also doesn’t budge when I’m hot or sweat (a little) but if you’re going to be doing outdoor things, I’d definitely recommend a waterproof formula instead.  I do think it lasts all day, though!  I usually apply my makeup around 6AM (YES I START EARLY) and if I’m going to the gym, I don’t take it off until 8PM ish.  It lasts all day.  *high five*

I bought this mascara for 1800 yen, if you want to try it, I found it on Amazon for about $18 (free-shipping woohoo)!

Random thought: I’d pick this mascara over Fiberwig, HANDS DOWN.  I love Japanese Mascara!  I have one more to try (from my stash), I’m excited!
