The Happenings: April 2016

How have you guys been?  I am writing this at…5AM local time (Japan)–whenever I get here, I tend to wake up in the 4AM timeframe, no matter how late I go to sleep.  I am going to pretend that we’re at a nice cafe drinking coffee while I’m filling y’all in on the happenings–OH GOSH I just want some caffeine.

BUT ANYWAY I was also here last month–Okinawa though!  It takes about two hours to get there from mainland Japan (from Fukuoka, or three from Tokyo).  Coolest thing we saw while we were there was this HUGE aquarium (Okinawa Churami Aquarium) where there are WHALE SHARKS!  Osaka also has a whale shark but there were about 4 of them in this gigantic tank.  Do you see the little fishball making a slightly heart shape?  Awwww.

Standing Ab Exercises AKA Helpful Moves for People Who Travel

There is a gym in this hotel.  I think it also includes a semi-outdoor driving range!  Unfortunately, I don’t golf (but I really wish I did, does anyone want to take lessons?).  Typically when I’m on work trips and its too late or it isn’t practical to run (IT SNOWED TODAY I was confused), I hang out in my room, blast iTunes, and do a lot of non-noisy cardio and body weight exercises.

My only rule is: CAN’T TOUCH THE GROUND because hotels and carpets and ugh.  It rules out yoga for me and some ab exercises…which makes me sad!  Good thing for Pinterest: now I’m happy.

For the travelers out there, here’s some standing abs from GymRa!  Thought I’d share–I tend to do a lot more squats than anything else because of the Rule.  They have a lot more regular workout routines too, which are great for combining to make interesting sets!  I need to incorporate arms and back into my workouts.

June 2014 Birchbox: Travel Ready

Summer is for road-tripping, destination-hopping, and of course, staycation-ing!  (Or if you’re a traveling business professional, like me, it also means more work trips)  To keep us prepped and ready to go for our summer travels, Birchbox packed their June boxes with lots of travel-sized goodies.

1. Evologie Stay Clear Cleanser
2. Color Club Gala’s Gems Collection Polish
3. English Laundry Signature for Her Perfume
4. Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette Sampler
5. Davines Love Smoothing Shampoo
6. Davines Love Smoothing Conditioner
7. Davines Ol All In One Milk

This, ladies and gents, is everything I’ll need for my upcoming [and short] business trip in August.  Seriously!  I’m just going to stick my Birchbox in my luggage and that’ll be that.

*I’ve seen Evologie products on their website—for the ‘set,’ Evologie products are pricey!  I’m curious to see how I’ll like the cleanser.  I prefer light/fresh cleansers.  (I’m not a fan of heavy smelling/feeling cleansers)

*Color Club polishes and I are on…okay terms.  I like the colors and the finishes but I feel that they don’t last very long.  If I get the shade pictured in my preview, I’ll be stoked!  That’s exactly the color I was thinking about for a good, overall, summer shade.

*I just used my Davines trial shampoo/conditioner from a previous box—whoa nelly.  It lathered really well and my hair felt great afterwards….but it was perfumed a little too much for my taste.  (It was also a deep, musky scent and you know how I feel about those.)  Hopefully this scent is lighter!  The product description says to look for ‘indian fig.’  Ooh, that sounds much better already.

Okay, scratch that.  I’ll need to add in a moisturizer and an SPF but other then that, this box is perfect for summer travels!  What did y’all get in your Birchboxes this month?  My new BB envy product is the Coola SPF moisturizer.  I swear I saw it in Michelle Phan’s ipsy boxes as well.  Currently, BB is doing a promo that if your $50+ order includes something from their SPF shop, they’ll add in an extra 50 points!  (Enter ‘hersummer50’ at checkout)

Hiatus and Sneak Peek for May/June

Good Morning Lovelies!

Just letting you know that I’ll be going on vacation (our honeymoon, woo-hoo!) and my blog will be as well!  I’m not sure when I’ll have internet access while we’re abroad but I might be able to sneak in a few posts here and there.

But, before I step out, I wanted to leave you guys with a sneak peek with what’s coming up for May and June.

  1. May and June 2014 Birchboxes
  2. NEW REVIEW: Urthbox
Urthbox features Non-GMO, all natural, and organic products.  Every box includes a full-size product!  I’ve heard good things about this box and I can’t wait to try it.  There are 4 options: Classic, Vegan, Diet, and Gluten-Free.  They all seem interesting but I think I’m going to go with the classic box so that I can try a big range of products.
  3. NEW REVIEW: From the Lab
From the Lab is a monthly subscription service that sends you up to three 30-day sized products of high end beauty products every month.  The products could either be skin care, hair care, or color cosmetics.  I’m really excited to try this box!  Skin care is one of my absolute favorite things to sample new products and I’m really interested to see what these “European Beauty Labs” have sent us each month.

That’s all I can think of but I’m sure there’ll be a lot more when I come back!  I’d love to do Stitch Fix #3, a bunch of travel posts, a bunch of Hawaii things since I’ll be sure to miss home…woo, I’m excited!  I hope everyone has a wonderful month full of May flowers.  Aloha!  Or should I be saying Ciao?

Finally Home!

Ahhhh it feels SO. GOOD. to be home.  :]

Pic I took of Koi at Glover Garden, Nagasaki

The last two weeks have been vacation for me, so here’s what we did:

– Went to a bunch of major Japanese cities: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka.
– Ate the (in)famous sulfur hard boiled eggs at Hakone
– Went to a Sumo Tournament!
– Went to the Osaka Aquarium.  No whale shark. 😦
– Saw Geisha.  Or rather, saw Maiko walking to their next appointments.
– Visited TEMPLES upon TEMPLES upon TEMPLES.
– Ate sashimi at Tsukiji Fish Market
– Ate a bunch of Green Tea “soft cream” cones
– Shopped.  :]

The Japanese have a very different beauty regiment then we do in the US.  It’s extremely focused on preventing sun damage.  It’s WONDERFUL.  The Japanese make the best sunscreen ever!  Look out for a bunch of Japanese Beauty Product reviews, haha.

Oh,Hawaii, I’ve missed you.
